Cyprus – 13 operators interested in Cyprus

La oportunidad de operar el primer casino resort en el sur de Chipre ha despertado el interés de 13 operadores.
Speaking after a presentation of the casino proposal during a meeting of the ministries of Finance and Commerce and the casino coordinating committee, Philippos Katranis said the bill would be voted on in Mid-January. If the bill is approved there would then be a period of three weeks before a two month long tender process would be launched.
Undersecretary to the President of the Republic, Constantinos Petrides, described the process as not so much being about legalising casinos but more an upgrading of the country’s tourism offering.
“Our aim is not to legalise gambling but to upgrade our tourism product,” he said, adding that the most likely delay for the bill’s approval would come from last minute changes being made to it.
El operador elegido podrá elegir en qué distrito se ubicará el resort, así como dos resorts satélites, y recibirá una licencia por 30 años, con un monopolio garantizado para los primeros 15, a cambio del 15 por ciento de los ingresos brutos anuales del casino. La licencia de juego anual costará 2.5 millones de euros durante los primeros cuatro años de funcionamiento y luego 5 millones de euros durante los cuatro siguientes. La licencia de estilo resort más grande tendrá 1,000 espacios y 100 mesas junto con 500 habitaciones de hotel. Los informes de los medios de comunicación de Chipre han vinculado al proceso nombres como Caesars Entertainment, Genting y Las Vegas Sands.
