The Barrière Casino in Bordeaux has launched a major renovation plan ‘worth several million euros,’ according to Stéphane Garcia, the venue’s director, with the casino’s playerbase taking part in a demolition bonus game alongside the work.

The casino management wanted its visitors to contribute to these renovations. That’s why it has put together a rather unique activity for the occasion. Throughout the first week of the renovations, from April 7 to 13, players will try to win tokens by demolishing a wall using a wrecking ball. “In two days, more than 200 players, members of the Le Carré VIP program, have already participated in this Demolition Days operation,” said the director, who added that with the Barrière Play app, an additional chance to demolish the wall is offered.

The renovation will include a three-story casino with several stages and two restaurants, one of which will be located on the building’s rooftop.

“Faced with an increasingly competitive leisure offering, it is essential to reinvent ourselves to meet the expectations of a new generation of players,” Mr Garcia told Revista de casinos.

The work will take place over 18 months. Despite the scale of the project, the casino’s customers will still be able to enjoy these spaces for the next year and a half.

Mr Garcia explained: “Two restaurants are planned, one in the heart of the slot machine room and one with a prime location on the top floor with a terrace and views of Lake Bordeaux. The gaming offering will be modernised and spread over three levels, compared to two today. One of the new features is an immersive electronic gaming room with nearly a hundred gaming stations,” he continued.

As the city’s largest entertainment venue, including a 700-seat theater, the group’s priority is to modernize its gaming offerings while simultaneously highlighting gaming, dining, and artistic activities, with dedicated stages, particularly in the slot machine room, to host local artists and performers, concluded Stéphane Garcia.

At the end of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the Bordeaux casino reached 6th place in the French rankings, generating gross gaming revenue of €52.99m.
